Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of school maladjusted children whist engaged in the ¡°Protect the Sheep¡± problem-solving figure therapy activity and to understand their problem-solving methods. The ultimate aim of this process is to seek appropriate therapeutic intervention methods in the play therapy process. The subjects of the study were nine maladjusted children in the 4th to 6th grades of elementary school. The participating children were analyzed according to the four-step structure of competition, challenge, problem-solving and compensation, and identification. First, participants could be selected when they proved to be contrary to their problematic behavior. Second, there was a lack of diversity in strategies and methods to cope with crisis situations. Third, The participating children tried to solve the problem through cooperative relationships. Fourth, Children were found to be most often angry at the situation where they were not compensated for their efforts. Fifth, most of the participating children chose the character of the ¡®wolf¡¯, which strongly suggests that they want to relieve their uncomfortable feelings through strength. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that it will be useful to use the storytelling activity of ¡°Protect the Sheep¡± to understand the characteristics of school maladjusted children in play therapy and to identify and establish better intervention methods and strategies accordingly.
